Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 - GT Gameplay
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 on PSP is a slimmed-down version of the console and PC versions, but has been a slight improvement over the previous 06 title with a few original extras. Play as your own created golfer or from a list of 21 world class professionals, including Tiger Woods, John Daly, Luke Donald and Ian Poulter. The popular Tiger Challenge and Team Tour modes have been left out of the PSP title which is a great shame, but the PGA Tour Career offers hours of variety and challenging golf.
The excellent Game Face has returned to the 07 title with a few original tweaks, allowing you to create your own golfer with masses of different options and possibilities to customise him / her just right! Licensed golf equipment can also be bought in the pro shop, which will help increase the skill of your golfer as you progress through the game.
The most noticeable addition to the 07 title is the PGA Season. Here you guide your golfer to the FedEx Cup, the PGA’s new season format in 2007. PGA Season is a collection of random events all put on a calendar (similar to the calendar used in Virtua Tennis: World Tour). This includes a number of traditional golf events, par-3 challenges and mini-games.
The swing indicator revisits the 07 title and helps enormously due to the uncomfortable analogue stick of the PSP, which will require some practice to get used to. Consequently, the system can seem very unforgiving and difficult to manage during the early stages of the game.
Once again, the familiar grid system has been used for putting on the green, and its function has been made much more forgiving than in the previous 06 title.
The graphics on this game have also been polished quite nicely, with an attractive and bright presentation to the fairway of all the 21 courses. However, the detail of the players aren’t quite up to the same standard. Golf legend commentators David Feherty and Gary McCord return to the game which is great, and the other environment sounds work well too.
Although Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is a good game, we can’t help but feel we’ve done this all before. The main menu has a very smart layout and the gameplay visual is also quite smooth. This game boasts a fun career and multiplayer mode, but personally, I believe the mini games could easily have been ditched for a more interesting game mode we’ve seen in the past, such as Tiger Challenge.
The verdict:
Uppers:
- Good visual
- The Game Face feature
- Updated golfers and courses
Downers:
- Very similar to previous Tiger games
- No online play
- Tedious mini-games
Overall score: 75%
