Once a PSP is bricked it is completely broken, unless you have a mod chip installed.

PSP's are generally bricked when people don't follow downgrader instructions correctly, or when using 'customization' apps to do trivial things like change fronts.

Most electronic devices don't come with any form of 'reset to default' option if you completely destroy their ability to boot (start up from power on), especially if you're making unofficial modifications like downgrading.

Homebrew is fantastic, but it carries a risk if you're not careful and rush things, rather than reading up on apps before you use them.

Evolve: True the internal hardware isn't actually destroyed, but wouldn't you say that for all intents and purposes to the average user (not running custom firmware), a corrupt flash0 (brick) is completely 'broken' PSP.

Without a modchip (and even then if its a ta-82) its as good as broken.

what i do want to do is run some old school type games and have been told that i need to downgrade to ver 1.50??
i have a ver 2.80 and if i try to downgrade it tells me that "i have ver 2.80 and have no need to upgrade"..
i just want to run a sega / nintendo emulator type ting??

Actually, the PSP isn't broken when you brick your PSP.

The flash0 on your PSP which carries the firmware (operating system) gets corrupt when you brick your PSP. This may be caused by doing something that's not intended...There is nothing wrong with the hardware of the PSP.

The problem is that you can't access flash0 once it's bricked and update it with a different firmware because you have no access to it. This is why Dark_AleX made recovery mode. So you can access flash0 without actually going into the operating system or firmware.

The modchip allows you to have (2) flash0's on the PSP at once. This is incase one flash0 gets corrupt and bricked, you can take the second flash0 from the modchip and un-corrupt (un-brick) the first flash0 which is bricked by using a different firmware.

yeah your only chance is a modchip
a brick wrecks the flash0 and renders your psp useless

if you need a modchip go to ModChipStore.com - Xbox, DS (Lite), GameCube, PS2, PSP, and Xbox 360 Mod Chips. Play Original Backups & Imports!

a modcihp lets you emulate other firmware and recover from bricks

There are also services available to unbrick PSPs, but you'll spend about $100 for that.
