from the PS3 service and make them available? Or is it even pssible? I own the originals on the PS1 anyway so it really wouldn't be wrong would it?

BTW, it's not paying for them that is the problem, so much as needing a PS3

When the files are transferred from the ps3 to a psp they are locked to that particular psp.
I believe you may be able to transfer the game to multiple (limited to a cpl) psps, but all need to be connected to the ps3 to transfer the file and make it work on that specific psp.

The DRM has not yet been cracked to my knowledge.

It seems that in the last day or 2 there is a new custom firmware which is able to load the downloadable ps1 games.
Look into (google) dark alex's 3.02 OE-A if interested.
I'm on firmware 1.5 and don't have any first hand experience.

If your psp is firmware 2.8 or higher you cannot use the custom firmware at this time.
