Can't watch Movies, help?

I got my PSP in Feb of 06. Ive ripped DVD's and have used PSP 9 to convert them to mp4 to play on my PSP. Worked fine, no problem...

I got Loco Roco the game about a month or so ago, and was prompted to install the new firmware update when I inserted the game, granted Ive been using the same firmware that came with the PSP since I got it.

Since that update, my movies are unplayable. When I go through the menus to play movies the PSP says "format not supported", where normally it would display the name of the movie.

How do I fix this?

Well, Do you know what was your other firmware? If you do search it up on this website delete your new one and use the old one that you used before.
If you don't know I think I got a huntch that the firmware is 2.80.
Don't trust me tho... Seek for other ivice before you go with this one

Will I still be able to play Loco Roco, or other new games without installing the most current firmware? When you get a new game, do you need to install the updated firmware to play the game?

You say you updated your firmware and videos stopped working, thats really strange.

On firmware 2.80 and below videos had to be placed in <psp's drive letter>:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01 (for AVC encoded video) or <psp's drive letter>:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01 (for MP4-SP encoded video). From firmware 2.81 and above you can just put them in <psp's drive letter>:\VIDEO

Having said that I was under the impression the psp would still playback video from the older directories also.
If you have updated to firmware 2.81 or above I guess its worth trying copying the videos to the newer directory.

My psp is running firmware 1.5, but through the use of a program called devhook i am able top load up newer firmwares into memory, allowing me to play newer UMD games and use all the features of the newer firmwares without having to install them. When I turn my psp off and back on I'm back to firmware 1.5, with its ability to run unsigned code (through a 'security flaw' people have found a way to run all sorts of homebrew games/applications such as emulators for other game systems.

If you had downgraded your psp (no firmware higher than 2.71 can currently be downgraded, there could be a new development in this area quite soon however) I could understand the error as AVC playback was introduced in firmware 2.0.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Lanacane is referring to downgrading, however its not as simple as deleting the old one and re-installing the old. Sony does not want people to downgrade as the main reason for all the firmware updates is to try to block people running anything other than official sony programs on the PSP.

Theres some more info on the subject in my earlier posts Here.

just got a PSP, when i rip DVD's i convert them to .mp4 files,

When i copy them onto the PSP memory card and go to video on the PSP menu, it says 'no video files'

Am i ripping to the correct file format (.mp4)??

Should i be copying the files to a specific place on the PSP??

Please help me,

siddys: They must be in a specifically formatted MP4-SP or AVC codec to work.

Resolution: 320x240 or 368x208
Framerate: 29.97 (NTSC)
Audio: 48000 Hz

On a psp with firmware 2.80 or lower:
MP4-SP videos must be placed in <PSP's drive letter>:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01 and named M4V#####.MP4 (the # being any numbers you wish, I believe there must be 5 numbers though)

AVC videos must be placed in <PSP's drive letter>:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01 and named MAQ#####.MP4 (the # being any numbers you wish, I believe there must be 5 numbers though)

If your psp is running firmware 2.81 or above, all videos can be placed in <PSP's drive letter>:\VIDEO and named as you wish.

If your videos still wont work you could try running them through PSPVideo9 using one of the profiles I attached in thread 7 of THIS thread.
