About PSP video 9

Hi,
I'm new here. I have a question about pspvideo9. I don't know why everyone keeps suggesting that program for the psp. I tried to install it more the a few time.(I had to uninstall and reinstall) When I installed the program, it looked broken. I have a picture here: [IMG][/IMG]

You see at the very top it says "pspvideo9" Also the far right hand side appears to be missing. Can someone tell me what happened? I don't think it's supposed to look this way.

Thanks

Everyone keeps suggesting it because it works very well for the vast majority of users.

Apart from that small white square to the right of 'psp video 9', it looks fine.
Have you tried using the app? What does/doesn't it do that your attempting to get it to?

EDIT: I admit its not perfect, but any small issues I encountered I was always able to fix after a quick browse around the forums on pspvideo9.com.

If you need a hand with finding the right profiles for converting your vids let me know.

Once you have your profiles set up, you just have to hit 'transcode new video', choose a video file, choose a profile from the dropdown list then hit 'start'.

I would recommend searching/browsing around the official pspvideo9 forums.

You only really need 2, maby 3 profiles. One for each of the most common ascpect ratios: 4:3, 16:9 and one i cant remember the name of but its slightly wider than normal 16:9 (you crop a few pixels from either side to have it fit the psp's screen nicely).

I have a few more, high and low bitrate (filesize/time) for each aspect ratio, a cpl with higher bitrate audio than normal for music videos.

Please use the forums to work out how to do things, just try messing with it too, thats the best way to learn. There are lots of threads about profiles on the pspvideo9 forums, I can post some of mine that you can paste into a file in pspvideo9s directory if you like.

defbean: If you have encoded the videos with the AVC codec, make sure you select 'avc folder' for both 'my computer and 'my psp' on pspvideo9's copy screen before you hit 'copy video to psp'.
Same goes for if you have encoded with mp4-SP (avc is better), set both to 'sp folder'.

When you browse to <psp's drive letter>:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01 (for AVC video) or <psp's drive letter>:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01 (for mp4-SP video) from your pc, you can see the files you've copied over, its just that you cant play them from the psp itself right?

Also, what firmware is your psp running?

I've been trying to use Video 9, and it hasn't worked on most of the files I've tried to convert, including avi files from my camera and my Web cam, an avi sample file that came with Windows, and a mov file that I downloaded. The only files I *have* been able to convert have been mpeg1 and mpeg2.

Here's the debug listing for one of the conversions that didn't work:

I'm far from an expert on video codecs, but it seems you either dont have a directshow codec for the format (IV50) you are trying to encode or pspvideo9 is not using it correctly.

"Unsupported codec (id=0) for input stream #0.0
Stream #0.0: Video: IV50, 320x240, 15.00 fps"
IV50 being the video codec, which appears from a google to be an ex-intel, now invideo owned video format.

I could say try This download but I cannot say that it it not a virus, its what i would try however (found on This site via a google).

But under output, you have
"Output #0, psp, to 'C:\Program Files\pspvideo9\MP_ROOT\100MNV01\M4V10016.MP4':
Stream #0.0: Video: xvid, 368x208, 29.97 fps, q=2-31, 1500 kb/s"

That seems to indicate the profile you are using is trying to convert into an xvid codec not MP4 AVC.
The output from my 4:3 profile is
"Stream #0.0: Video: h264, yuv420p, 320x240, 29.97 fps, q=25-25, pass 1, 768 kb/s".
Are you using one of the profiles I linked to?

Does the file you are tying to encode play through windows media player?

I have converted many divx, xvid and mpg (1) files with pspvidieo9 with no problems, from my experience .mov files do not work.

There are other free video converters such as This, I have no personal experience with it though.

The fact it says xvid not h264 or whatever mp4-sp video is listed as is quite puzzling. If it is really encoding into this codec, there is no chance of is playing back on the psp.
I have never heard of pspvideo9 doing this.

I see you have posted on the official pspvideo9 forums, hopefully someone there can assist you.

You could also try intalling a recent xvid codec like the one linked to on the top post Here, but I doubt it will help (wont harm anything though).
Having a recent divx codec installed as well couldnt hurt.
