you need a 3.00 plus system software/firmware to use the video folder
make a VIDEO folder in the screen that first comes up when you connect your psp to the computer, and put all of you movies in there, if you have 3.00+ firmware

If your daughter's PSP is not above Firmware 3.00, then when you select your PSP via My Computer, you should see 2 folders, one called MP_ROOT and one called PSP. Open MP_ROOT and copy and paste your MP4 files in there and try that.
If the PSP is Firmware 3.00 or above, then michaelp has helped you out there!

Hope this works for you now, but give us a shout if otherwise.

Best regards,

Angry Still no good

It is system software version 2.00. When i open the psp in my computer i have 2 folders as you say 1- PSP 2-MP_root. Ive tried putting videos in the mp root file but still nothing. I've opened this file and there is 2 others 100MNV01 & 100ANV01. I put a movie in the first one and straight into the MP_root folder. They show up when im conected to My computer and space is taken up on the memory stick but when you try and access the video it shows picture of memory card but says -There are no videos. Im i going mad or is the psp not working properly. This is starting to get to me a little. I can put the movies onto a ipod video so i know they work. Any help would be very greatfully accepted.

thanks again

Be sure to put the videos in the "100ANV01" Folder:
:/MP_Root/100ANV01
After you do that, try to access them directly from the PSP main menu, If it still keep showing "There are no videos", I recommend you to check the videos on an iPod, or any other Mp4 video player, like you've said, just to be sure that the videos are working properly...
If non of this works out, try out to re-formatt the Memory stick, and try to put the videos again, that should do it!

Hope that helps!

Hey kida the Horse!

I Probably might know why your PSP does not play your MP4 videos!

When you put a video on the MP_Root/100ANV01 folder, you should give an especific name to the video-file, but i not sure what name you should give to it, It's a combination of numbers and letters, I don't know how to name them, cause the PSP Video 9 Software gently re-names them for me...

Guys... any suggestion??? I mean, I hope thats the problem, if not try following my advice of re-formating the stick...

ms0:\VIDEO\ - for plain MP4 movies like the video iPod movies. Names can be anything. You need firmware 2.80 or better (or a custom firmware) for this directory to be used.

ms0:\MP_Root\100MNV01\ - for MPEG4-SP encoded movies (DIVX/XVID). Name MUST be M4V1xxxx.MP4 where xxxx is some number from 0000 to 9999. For example, M4V10011.MP4.

ms0:\MP_Root\100ANV01\ or
ms0:\MP_Root\101ANV01\ - for MPEG4-AVC encoded movies (h.264). Names MUST be MAQ1xxxx.MP4. Same deal as above with xxxx. I have not seen anything specific posted on the difference in these two directories, but it seems that older firmwares want the 100ANV01 name, while newer firmwares want the 101ANV01 name.

Note: there are restrictions on the resolution and bitrate of the movies unless you use a custom firmware. Sony firmwares before 2.60 cannot play AVC encoded movies from the memstick. All resolutions must be equal to or smaller than 368x208 for 16:9 movies, or equal to or smaller than 320x240 for 4:3 movies. For example, 256x192 is acceptable for a 4:3 movie, while 368x272 is not. The bitrate for the video must be less than 768 kbps.

You cannot put an AVC movie in the 100MNV01 directory or an SP movie in the 100ANV01(101ANV01) directory.

AVC support from the memory stick came in with firmware 2.0 not 2.6.

There are so many threads like this with the same info, it helps to look before asking ppl

waht program do you use for converting your video to PSP? use a pspvideo9converter program...
and just don rename your video, cause make PSP cannot detect that m4 files... the rest is same as above... put your video format mp4 to memorie stick directory: MP_ROOT --->100MNV01
and then disconnect the usb and play it on the PSP console...

If you have tried copying the file to the correct directory and named it correctly as listed by Chilly Willy then they should play if they have been encoded specifically for the PSP (Ipod video etc wont work if you just copy them over).

Try naming the file M4V10000.MP4 and placing it in X:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01 (X being the drive letter of your PSP).
If that doesnt work then rename it MAQ10000.MP4 and place it in X:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01

If the video still wouldn't play, it probably isnt encoded correctly for the PSP. Try re-encoding the video with PSPVideo9. Here is a guide on how to do that.

Success

Thanks for everyones help i've managed to download my movies to the psp. I feel a bit stupid because after several attempts i realised what i was doing wrong. I was trying to copy the folder off the disc instead of going into the folder and downloading the file with the big Q on and mp4 underneath. Tell me this is a mistake and not a simple one because it seems so easy once you know how. Once again thanks to you all for all the info you have given me. I'm now going to attempt to connect to the internet with the psp so be ready to give me more help because im sure like everything else it wont be easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Connect the USB cable, scroll to the left of the XMB (the PSP's menu) then go up to usb mode and select it.

A new drive will appear in my computer on your pc, go into that, then PSP then MUSIC. Copy your mp3, wma or atrac-3 audio files into there.
