I'm a newb to PSP and I have a PSP 2.71v ta-082 asian edition. I want to know what umd games I could play with my psp. What's NR and Region 1- 4... games? Can I play any umd's and games to my psp? or do I have to follow the region thinges guidelines?

There is no region lock on UMD games, umd video discs are locked however.

In order to play the latest games you will need to be running a higher version firmware.

You can either update to the official 3.03 firmware, or look into Dark Alex's 3.03OE-b. This is a custom (unofficial) firmware that provides all the features of 3.03 but also allows you to run unofficial software (homebrew). This ranges from individual games people port over to the psp, to emulators that allow you to run games from other consoles on your psp.

If you update to any official firmware 2.81 or above you will loose all access to homebrew and be limited to official sony features.

If you update your firmware any UMD game you buy will run no problem.
